Welcome to the Prince and Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation , a non-profit organization deeply committed to upholding human dignity through public interest litigation and humanitarian services. Our tireless mission is to stand as advocates for the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of individuals and to provide effective humanitarian relief for them when necessary.
## Our Vision
We envision a world where human rights are universally respected and protected, and every person can live with dignity and equality before the law.
## About Us
The Prince and Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on using strategic litigation and humanitarian efforts to uphold and advance human dignity and wellbeing. We believe in the transformative potential of public interest litigation to create lasting positive change.
## Our Core Objectives
1. **Strategic Litigation:** Initiate and pursue legal actions to challenge human rights violations and set legal precedents that protect and promote human rights. Examples of our growing list of strategic litigation cases or public interest litigation cases include: ECW/CCJ/APP/39/22, ECW/CCJ/APP/50/22, ECW/CCJ/APP/32/23, ECW/CCJ/APP/54/22, ECW/CCJ/APP/25/23, at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, an international human rights court.
2. **Humanitarian Services:** Provide essential humanitarian aid and support to communities affected by human rights abuses, economic downturns, conflicts, and natural disasters.
## Our Approach
Our approach is grounded in legal expertise, community engagement, research, and collaboration. By partnering with legal professionals, activists, and organizations, we strive for tangible, meaningful impact in our pursuit of a just and equal society.
## Objectives
– To successfully litigate cases leading to policy changes, and the enactment and effective application of laws that would positively impact human rights standards and ensure effective remedies.
– To deliver humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities in times of crisis, offering essential relief and support.
## Our Work Promoting Universality In The Application Of The Rome Statute
The Prince and Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation, a member of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court, CICC, is also very active in efforts to promote universality of the Rome Statute which governs the activities of the International Criminal Court. We believe that a world in which the universality of the Statute is enhanced will be a world in which international crime that violates peremptory norms of International Law are effectively deterred.
The Offokaja Foundation is registered in several jurisdictions in it’s bid to push forward the cause of advancing international human rights law.
A lot of our human rights work revolves round the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, CCJ, where we focus a lot of our public interest litigation efforts.
A growing amount of our humanitarian work is done on online platforms like igbodefender.com and it’s social media platforms on Pocket App, Facebook and others. Through such empowerments and giveaways we distribute money, foodstuff and other kinds of aid that would help cushion the worst effects of the poor economy, and fight maladies like hunger, malnutrition, unemployment, depression and other maladies that affect individuals due to violations of their economic and social rights.
## History
The Prince and Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation Nigeria was founded in 2005 by Prince Charles Offokaja who started a book donation drive to academic institutions in that year. That was part of his drive to increase the reading culture in Nigeria.
But he soon discovered that effectively doing charity work without official registration, while being effective often needed the added capabilities that could only come from official registeration of the charity. So, in 2015, the Offokaja Foundation was finally registered. Since then, the organization has expanded in scope, international presence and activities aimed at enhancing human dignity and wellbeing.
Prince and Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation Switzerland is the international headquarters of the foundation and helps us have a universal impact in line with our vision for a world where human rights are universally respected and protected, and every person can live with dignity and equality before the law.
