  • Haiti AU Membership: Let’s Learn from the Arab League

The Arab League rightly accepts countries like Egypt, Somalia, Comoros, Djibouti, and Mauritania as Full Members — even though they are not located on the Arabian Peninsula. They are accepted because they are bona fide Arab countries.

Haiti is an African country in spirit, history, and blood. They threw off the yoke of Transatlantic slavery in 1804, becoming the first Black independent republic.

We therefore urge the African Union Commission to move Haiti’s membership bid forward as required under Article 29 of the AU Constitutive Act.

If we truly believe in Pan-Africanism, we should support Haiti joining the African Union — just as the Arab League accepts full membership for all Arab countries without rigid geographical limitations.
