#LetHaitiIn: We’ve Petitioned Pan-African Parliament & Submitted a Draft Resolution & Draft 6th Region Model Law

Hello everyone,Hope this meets you well.

Last September, we filed a formal petition with the Pan-African Parliament calling for Haiti’s admission to the African Union and the recognition of the African Diaspora as the Sixth Region.

While the PAP’s recommendations are advisory, parliamentary backing from Africa’s continental legislature will carry significant political weight with Member States and the Commission.

We are now awaiting the PAP’s review and formal response. We submitted three key deliverables:

1. A draft Resolution calling on the African Union Commission to transmit Haiti’s 2012 membership request to all Member States for their vote, in accordance with Article 29 of the AU Constitutive Act.

2. A draft Sixth Region Model Law that would create a durable institutional framework allowing willing Afro-descendant majority States to join the AU on equal terms — ensuring that no country faces the injustice Haiti has endured.

3. Supporting legal and policy documentation grounding both proposals in AU law, precedent from other regional bodies, and Pan-African principle.

We believe the PAP’s adoption of this framework would represent a historic step forward for continental unity and justice. We invite your continued support as this process unfolds.
